Music Therapy Case Study

Independent Research

Senior Fluent Care Center

Expanded my Summer Research Innovation Program project into an ongoing case study with dementia patients at Senior Fluent Care Home, under the mentorship of nonprofit Dementia Alliance of North Carolina Program Director. The study compares interactive and receptive music therapy methods. Six patients take part in weekly 30-minute sessions that include both interactive and receptive approaches. The MIDAS (Music In Dementia Assessment Scale) is used to collect qualitative data on emotional responses from the patients during the session. Families have shared heartfelt appreciation for this initiative.

This independent research experience provided me with valuable skills in designing and conducting real-world studies, collaborating with healthcare professionals, and applying academic inquiry to practical challenges. It enhanced my ability to analyze qualitative data, communicate effectively, and understand the impact of music on emotional well-being.
